‘Some women would kill for a baby’

Inside is a 2016 Spanish horror film directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas (Kidnapped) from a screenplay by Jaume Balagueró and Manu Diez ([•REC]). It is being produced by Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls of Nostromo Pictures (Buried).

The film is a remake of the 2007 French film Inside (aka À l’intérieur) directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (Livid; Among the Living; Leatherface).

Embankment Films are selling the project at the American Film Market (AFM) next week and casting is currently underway for a February 2016 shoot. Embankment’s Tim Haslam commented:

“Jaume had this great idea for the remake and, with Manu, they’ve reimagined the original film as a very classy and tense thriller. With two great female characters fighting to be a mother, Miguel Ángel brings his distinct vision, setting up the film as a tense, sustained set piece that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, for sure.”

Halloween Returns is a 2016 horror film in development by Dimension Films. It was formerly announced as Halloween III and Halloween 3-D.

The film is being directed by Marcus Dunstan (Feast and sequels; The Collector; The Collection) from a screenplay co-written with Patrick Melton (Saw VI; Piranha 3DD; Monstropolis), based on characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill.

The film is being produced by Malek Akkad (Halloween: Resurrection; Halloween [2007) and Halloween II [2009]).

I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu is a forthcoming 2016 horror thriller written and directed by Meir Zarchi.

37 years after the release of the controversial 1978 cult classic I Spit On Your Grave, Camille Keaton has reunited with director Meir Zarchi to reprise her role of Jennifer Hills in its direct sequel, I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu.

I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu is the only sequel that shares characters as well as continuity with the original 1978 motion picture Day of the Woman aka I Spit On Your Grave.

Following her brutal rape, Jennifer wrote a best-selling account of her ordeal and of the controversial trial in which she was accused of taking the law into her own hands and ruthlessly killing her assailants. In the small town where the rape and revenge took place, the relatives of the four rapists she killed are furious that the court declared her not guilty and resolve to take justice into their own hands.

The original I Spit On Your Grave was inspired by Meir Zarchi’s experience with a victim of rape. After stumbling upon a teenage girl in a park in the aftermath of a violent assault, Zarchi began to imagine how a woman in this situation might fantasize about revenge. Moreover, he wanted to depict to the audience the real horrors of rape.

In this new chapter, Jennifer Hills is joined by her daughter Christy (Jamie Bernadette) as well as a variety of new characters, including Maria Olsen who plays the role of Johnny’s wife, the gas station attendant Jennifer castrated; Jim Tavare in the role of Herman, whose son Matthew was hung by Jennifer, as well as by actors Jonathan Peacy, Jeremy Ferdman, Holgie Forrester, Roy Allen and Alexandra Kenworthy.

“I always envisioned Camille Keaton returning to continue the saga of Jennifer Hills,” said Zarchi. “Getting together with Camille to film the sequel was a surreal, deja-vu-like experience”.

Friday the 13th: The Game is a 2016 computer slasher horror game that has already raised startup funding via a successful Kickstarter campaign.

At the time of writing, and with six hours to go, the online project has received $93,526 more than its $700,000 goal. You can guarantee yourself a copy of the game by pledging at least $25.

The multiplayer PC, Xbox One, and PS4 game is slated to arrive in October 2016. It is being developed by Gun Media and Illfonic with the full support of franchise creator Sean Cunningham.

It’s a third-person, asymmetrical multiplayer game. One player controls Jason Voorhees, while seven others take control of camp counsellors who are attempting to survive the night.

A Monster Calls is a 2016 American-Spanish fantasy film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage; Penny Dreadful [“Night Work”, “Séance”]; World War Z sequel), based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Patrick Ness, who also wrote the screenplay based on an original idea by Siobhan Dowd.

On October 9, the filming began on location in Preston, Lancashire and Manchester. The film is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2016, by Focus Features.

Sadako vs. Kakayo is a 2016 Japanese horror film directed by Kôji Shiraishi (Noroi: The Curse; Grotesque; Occult; Foe and sequel). Twenty-four year-old actress Mizuki Yamamoto (Screaming Class) is set to star.

Kadokawa and NBC Universal Japan have partnered to make the film which features the vengeful female ghosts from two J-horror series: The Ring (Sadako) and The Grudge (Kayako).

The project was originally announced as an April Fool’s Day hoax (see poster above) but now it became reality.

Sadako vs. Kayako will be released in Japan in June 2016, with 4DX screenings at selected theatrical showings.

The Ghost Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore is a 2016 British portmanteau horror play, bringing to the theatre the flavour of vintage Amicus film anthologies such as Tales from the Crypt and Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors.
